No-exam life insurance

Who qualifies for expedited underwriting, how the process works, and what to expect otherwise.

Many carriers now use expedited underwriting to decide using your application, Rx records, driving records, and other data when you're within their age and amount thresholds—no exam needed. Decisions can come back the same business day. Each quote on this site tells you whether the carrier requires an exam, might request one, or won't need one.

What it changes

Skipping an exam isn't the same as skipping review. The carrier cross-checks your answers against other data, and policies based on wrong information can be challenged in the first two years. The carrier can still ask for an exam if information raises flags—you get to choose whether to continue.

Who tends to qualify

Typically under 60, requesting normal amounts, no serious health issues, no tobacco in the past year or more. Some carriers will also take recent blood work from a doctor's visit instead of requiring their own exam.

When an exam is required, a medical professional typically visits your home or workplace for 20 to 40 minutes—at no cost to you—to take basic measurements and samples. In the Vallejo area, these visits are usually scheduled at your convenience. For healthy applicants, the exam results can actually improve your rate classification, making it a bonus rather than a burden.
